The short version
A roofing quote fixes the price of a defined scope, which only works if the scope names the covering, the area and the hidden-damage rules. A roofing quote is a fixed offer: it names the scope, the price, what is not included, and the date the price is good until.
Open the quote generator for roofersScope of work for the base package
The example quote is for replacing the damaged tiles or shingles on one roof slope as a single defined repair job, with one flashing repair, one dumpster and scaffolding for the job, all agreed before work starts. The wording under each line is the kind of scope sentence you can copy and edit. Unit prices are example rates from the starter lines in the quote generator, not market prices, so replace them with your own.
| Included in the base price | Qty | Unit | Unit price | Amount |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Tile or shingle replacementReplace the damaged units, re-bed or re-fix as needed and match the existing covering as closely as possible. | 1 | job | $480.00 | $480.00 |
| Flashing and sealing repairRenew flashings at abutments and penetrations and seal the joints so water runs off rather than in. | 1 | job | $260.00 | $260.00 |
| Disposal and dumpster feeRent, fill and haul away a dumpster for the old roofing material and packaging, including the dump fee. | 1 | job | $500.00 | $500.00 |
| Scaffolding rentalErect, rent and strike the access needed to work safely at height, for the period of the job. | 1 | job | $350.00 | $350.00 |
Optional add-ons
Options keep the base price clear and let the client say yes to extras without reopening the quote.
| Option the client can add | Qty | Unit | Unit price | Amount |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Written inspection report with photographs, delivered before work starts | 1 | job | $120.00 | $120.00 |
Worked quote total
The base price is the offer. Options are added only when the client accepts them. The tax rate is an example only.
| Quote total | Base only | Base plus options |
|---|---|---|
| Base price | $1,590.00 | $1,590.00 |
| Options | $0.00 | $120.00 |

| Quoted total | $1,717.20 | $1,846.80 |
Example payment schedule
A 30, 40 and 30 split is shown as an example. Choose a split that fits the size of the job and the cost of materials you carry.
| Payment | Share | Amount |
|---|---|---|
| Deposit when the quote is accepted | 30% | $515.16 |
| When the old covering is off and the roof is dried in | 40% | $686.88 |
| When the new covering is on and the site is clean | 30% | $515.16 |
| Total, base only | 100% | $1,717.20 |
Validity and acceptance
State a validity date, for example that the price holds for 30 days from the quote date. Then add an acceptance line: the client signs and dates the quote, or replies in writing, and the deposit starts the schedule. A signature block is a name, a signature and a date for the client and for you.
Exclusions for a roofing quote
- Replacement of rotted decking, which is not in the scope and is priced in a written change order if it is found.
- Gutter repair or replacement, chimney masonry and skylight work.
- Interior damage from earlier leaks, including ceilings and insulation.
- Permit fees, unless a line in the scope lists them.
Change orders
If decking or flashing outside the agreed scope is found, stop, photograph it, and send a written change order with its own price before continuing.
Not ready to commit to a price?
A roofer usually gives an estimate for a first conversation or an insurance discussion, and a quote once the roof has been measured and the covering chosen. If the scope is still open, start with the roofing estimate template and give a range.
