About these Google Sheets invoice templates
The formulas are ordinary SUM, IF and ROUND, so Sheets reads them without rewriting anything. Type a quantity and a rate and the line total, the tax and the balance due keep up in the browser. Click any design to try it here before anything reaches your Drive; every card shows the sheet you get.
Choose Simple under Style for 10 plain sheets, or Trades and construction for the 5 contractor designs. Share the sheet with your bookkeeper and send the client a PDF. If you work offline, the Excel edition is the same workbook.

What is in every sheet

Opening one in Google Sheets
- Download the .xlsxPick a design and save the file. Sheets imports .xlsx directly, formulas and all.
- Upload it to Drivedrive.google.com, then New, then File upload.
- Open it with Google SheetsRight click the file, choose Open with, then Google Sheets. Check the balance due cell still shows a formula in the bar at the top.
- Fill in the workDescription, quantity and rate. The amount column, the subtotal, the tax and the balance due update as you type.
- Download the PDFFile, then Download, then PDF. Set it to Fit to width and Portrait if the preview looks wide.
If you would rather not keep client figures in Drive at all, the invoice generator does the same arithmetic in your browser and keeps your draft only on your device.
What works itself out
Four formulas, all of them readable. Nothing is hidden in a macro and nothing is locked, so you can see exactly how a figure was reached. The third column is the formula as it appears in every one of the fifty downloads, so you can check it against the cell.

Which format to take
The same fifty designs exist in every format below. Pick by what you intend to do with the file, not by what you happen to have open.

Questions, answered
Do I have to upload it to Drive to see how it looks?
No. Click a design and it opens in an editor on this page, with the arithmetic working. Upload the .xlsx to Drive once you have settled on the one you want.
Are these Google Sheets invoice templates free?
Yes. Downloads need no account, there is no watermark on the sheet, and nothing you type is sent anywhere. Editing a design here needs a free account.
Do the formulas really survive the upload?
Yes. They are SUM, IF and ROUND, which Sheets supports natively and which behave the same as in Excel. Open the balance due cell after importing and you will see the formula, not a pasted figure.
Why a .xlsx rather than a Sheets link?
A Sheets link lives in somebody's Drive. Uploading the .xlsx puts the file in your own Drive, under your own account, which is where client figures belong.
Which cells do I type in?
Description, quantity, rate, discount, tax rate and amount paid. Everything else works itself out.
How do I add more rows?
Right click a row inside the table and choose Insert row. Copy the amount cell from the row above, then widen the subtotal range so it includes the new row.
Can two of us work on it at once?
Yes, and that is the one thing a downloaded file cannot do. Share the sheet with your bookkeeper or accountant, with view or edit access, and you both see the same figures. Send the client the PDF rather than the sheet, so nobody edits the total after you send it.
How do I send it to a client?
File, then Download, then PDF. Sharing the sheet itself lets the client change your figures, so send the PDF unless you want that.
Can I set it up as a reusable template?
Yes. Put your business details in once, then use File then Make a copy for each new invoice and leave the original alone.
Does it work on the Sheets mobile app?
Yes, the formulas recalculate there. Typing a full invoice on a phone is slow, so it is better for a correction on site than for writing the whole thing.
Can I connect it to a payment link?
Yes. Put your link in the payment row and Sheets makes it clickable. The payment links tool builds one if you do not have it to hand.
How do I open one in Google Sheets?
Download the .xlsx, then in Drive use New, File upload and open it with Google Sheets. The formulas come across as they are.
How do I set my own currency?
Select the money columns, then Format, Number, Currency, and pick yours. Custom currency lets you type any symbol.
Does it print on one page?
The print area and the fit-to-page settings come with the file, so File, Print gives you the invoice on one sheet of US Letter.
Does Google Sheets have an invoice template?
Sheets has a basic invoice in its template gallery. The designs here add a trade strip, a discount, tax at a rate you set, the amount paid and a balance due, in 50 layouts, and they arrive as .xlsx files you upload to your own Drive.
Is there a contractor invoice template for Google Sheets?
Yes. Filter by Trades and construction and 5 designs remain, with fields such as a job reference and retainage above the line items. The formulas below them are the same as in every design.
