What to include in a handyman invoice
- Service call or trip fee. The charge for coming out and assessing the job, stated as due whether or not the customer goes ahead with the repair.
- Hours and hourly rate. Hours worked and your rate shown as separate figures, since one lump sum for labor is the line customers most often question.
- Minimum charge. The minimum you bill for a short visit, printed on the invoice so a fifteen-minute fix does not turn into a dispute about the price.
- Task list by room. Each small job listed with its room or location, such as patching drywall in the hall, so several fixes on one visit are easy to follow.
- Materials at cost or markup. Hardware, fasteners, caulk and parts bought for the job, kept apart from labor so the customer can see what the store run cost.
- Disposal and haul-away. A fee for removing old fixtures, debris or packaging, on its own line if you charge it, so dump fees are not buried in labor.
- License and job address. Your contractor license number where your state requires one for the job size, plus the property address, which matters when a landlord pays for a tenant's repair.
