What is the same on every page
- InvoiceTools.com is free, needs no account to build and download a document, and uploads nothing you type unless you open an optional account, send a tracked link or use the AI helper. The pricing page has the full list.
- The other app is described from its own published pricing and help pages, with the date they were checked. If something has changed, the contact page is the fastest way to get it corrected.
- None of these pages carry affiliate links, and none of the apps named here is affiliated with this site. Every link to the other app goes to its own site.

What is the best free alternative to paid invoicing software?
It depends on what you need beyond the invoice. For free bookkeeping in the US or Canada, Wave's Starter plan. For a free app with a client portal, Zoho Invoice. For an invoice with no account at all, the free invoice generator here.
Which invoicing apps have a free plan?
Of the eight compared here, when checked on 18 September 2026: Wave (Starter), Zoho Invoice (up to 500 invoices a year) and Square Invoices (Square Free, with fees on card payments). FreshBooks, Jobber, Housecall Pro and BILL have trials or paid plans only, and Invoice Simple's app plans are paid.
