What each group is for
The tools are grouped by the job rather than by the kind of thing they are, because that is how people arrive. Someone pricing a job and someone splitting a restaurant bill are not doing the same task, even though both involve a percentage.
- Create a document makes the thing you send: an invoice, a quote, a receipt, a late fee letter. Each exports a print-ready PDF from your browser.
- Editable templates are 200 finished designs you can type straight into, if you would rather start from a layout than from a form.
- Price the work is the arithmetic before the invoice: markup, margin, break-even, your rate, and what a job should cost.
- Tax and billing covers the numbers that land on the document itself.
- Everyday numbers and On site are the general ones, useful whether or not you are invoicing anybody.
All free, all in the browser
Every tool here is free with no account, no watermark and no limit. They run on your own device, so what you type is never sent anywhere: no upload step means nothing to store and nothing to leak. More on that on the privacy page.
If you want your details and documents saved between visits, an account does that and is also free. Everything above works perfectly well without one.
Questions about the tools
Are all the tools free?
Yes. Every calculator, generator and template is free with no signup, no watermark and no limit on how many documents you create.
Which tool should I use to bill a client?
The invoice generator if you want to fill in a form, or the invoice templates if you would rather start from a finished design. Both export the same print-ready PDF.
What is the difference between the quote generator and the quote templates?
The generator is a form with a live preview and totals that calculate themselves. The templates are 200 finished designs you type directly into. Same document, different starting point.
Do the calculators work outside the United States?
The document tools work anywhere and handle multiple currencies. Tax tools are country-specific: sales tax covers US states, VAT covers 40 countries, and each says which rules it applies.
Is anything I type saved?
Not by the tools. They run in your browser with no upload step, so there is nothing to store. An account is optional and saves only what you choose.
Can I suggest a tool?
Yes, and it is worth doing. Email contact@invoicetools.com with what you would use it for.
Paying for an app and only using the invoicing? Eight comparisons. Everything here is free; the pricing page says what that covers.
